After necessary preparations, it is time to take a domestic flight from Katmandu to Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla – the gateway to the Everest region. Situated at an extreme altitude of 2,860 meters and perched on the top of steep hill, Tenzin Hilary is considered as one of the world’s most precarious airports. And this is thrilling in its own light! Enjoy the panoramic aerial view of snow peaks east of Kathmandu during your 35-minute flight. After landing, we will take a gentle walk along the mountainside and stay overnight in Phakding village.

After a good breakfast at Phakding, we will head upstream Dudh Koshi River and set out for the mountain junction town of Namche. Along the way, there is an entrance to Sagarmatha National Park which was set up to protect the fragile mountainous environment. Get ready to experience the first view of Mt Everest and many other peaks as we take a steep hike to Namche Bazar.

We will take the trail along mountainside and begin trek towards Tengboche. Be prepared to be mesmerized by the superb view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and other peaks of Khumbu region! From Phunki Tenga village, we have a little steep climb through the pine forests before reaching Tengboche, the biggest monastery of Khumbu region. With mountains in the background, the monastery looks even more stunning during the sunrise and sunset.

Our next destination Dinboche is a Sherpa village in the Khumbu region where the community is entirely dependent on tourism. We will start with a forested descent, passing through small villages and begin ascending to the higher elevation. After entering the Imja Valley, we will begin the last and steepest climb to reach Dingboche. Be wary of the effect of altitude!
After breakfast, we will head off to Chukhung Valley, passing through several traditional farms and stone houses. The valley offers beautiful views of Mt. Makalu and Mt. Lhotse and can be reached in just three hours. We will then rest at a lodge and head off to Chukhung-Ri, a rocky peak rising above Chukhung village. It will take just two hours to reach there from the village and similar time to get back to our lodge at Chukhung.
Kongma La Pass is one of the several small summits that make up the long South West ridge of Nuptse. It is an alternative trails for the Everest Base Camp and is a much less crowded trekking trail of Everest. Although it is more challenging in comparison, it offers the most stunning of mountains view and is totally worth the extra sweats. After a nice view from the Kongma La top, we will descend down via Dingoche and then to Labuche for overnight stay.
O/N: Lodge
We can reach the small village of Gorakshep in three hours. It is also the last settlement before the base camp and the base of Kala Patthar peak, which literally means ‘black rock’. There is a clear path from the village that leads all the way up to Kala Patthar summit. Ascend to the summit and descend back to Gorakshep can be done within four hours. Climbing Kala Patthar is highly recommended as we do not see Mt Everest from its base camp but Kala Patthar offers the view of entire south face of Mt. Everest and other well-known peaks!
