While our staff prepares your trek permits, we will take a tour of Kathmandu. This ancient city has lots of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We will first visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, which used to be the palace of the rulers of the ancient Kathmandu. We will then take you to Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu temples in the world. Next we will visit Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest unique stupas in the world. Take some time to immerse yourself in the spiritual vibes of Boudhanath after which we will head back to the hotel. You will then meet your guide for trek briefing.
After necessary preparations, it is time to take a domestic flight from Katmandu to Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla – the gateway to the Everest region. Situated at an extreme altitude of 2,860 meters and perched on the top of steep hill, Tenzin Hilary is considered as one of the world’s most precarious airports. And this is thrilling in its own light! Enjoy the panoramic aerial view of snow peaks east of Kathmandu during your 35-minute flight. After landing, we will take a gentle walk along the mountainside and stay overnight in Phakding village.
After a good breakfast at Phakding, we will head upstream Dudh Koshi River and set out for the mountain junction town of Namche. Along the way, there is an entrance to Sagarmatha National Park which was set up to protect the fragile mountainous environment. Get ready to experience the first view of Mt Everest and many other peaks as we take a steep hike to Namche Bazar.
Namche is located between two ridges and is the largest town in Khumbu region. With abundance availability of tea houses, lodges and souvenir shops, Namche is an ideal place to rest and acclimatize to the new altitude.
We will take the trail along mountainside and begin trek towards Tengboche. Be prepared to be mesmerized by the superb view of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and other peaks of Khumbu region! From Phunki Tenga village, we have a little steep climb through the pine forests before reaching Tengboche, the biggest monastery of Khumbu region. With mountains in the background, the monastery looks even more stunning during the sunrise and sunset.
Our next destination Dinboche is a Sherpa village in the Khumbu region where the community is entirely dependent on tourism. We will start with a forested descent, passing through small villages and begin ascending to the higher elevation. After entering the Imja Valley, we will begin the last and steepest climb to reach Dingboche. Be wary of the effect of altitude!
After breakfast, we will head off to Chukhung Valley, passing through several traditional farms and stone houses. The valley offers beautiful views of Mt. Makalu and Mt. Lhotse and can be reached in just three hours. We will then rest at a lodge and head off to Chukhung-Ri, a rocky peak rising above Chukhung village. It will take just two hours to reach there from the village and similar time to get back to our lodge at Chukhung.
Kongma La Pass is one of the several small summits that make up the long South West ridge of Nuptse. It is an alternative trails for the Everest Base Camp and is a much less crowded trekking trail of Everest. Although it is more challenging in comparison, it offers the most stunning of mountains view and is totally worth the extra sweats. After a nice view from the Kongma La top, we will descend down via Dingoche and then to Labuche for overnight stay.
We can reach the small village of Gorakshep in three hours. It is also the last settlement before the base camp and the base of Kala Patthar peak, which literally means ‘black rock’. There is a clear path from the village that leads all the way up to Kala Patthar summit. Ascend to the summit and descend back to Gorakshep can be done within four hours. Climbing Kala Patthar is highly recommended as we do not see Mt Everest from its base camp but Kala Patthar offers the view of entire south face of Mt. Everest and other well-known peaks!
After breakfast at our lodge, we will hike three hours to reach our ultimate destination, the Mt. Everest Base Camp! We ascend and descend mostly on a glacier path and reach the camp in three hours. We will spend some time in the base camp to admire the incredible melt patterns and ice towers on the upper Khumbu glacier and the stunning views of Nuptse and Pumori mountains. We will head back towards Gorakshep to spend the night.
From Gorakshep, we will head down in the direction of Pheriche, a highly windy town. Here, trekkers can get medical attention if required. After some rest, we will descend further down and reach Pangboche where we will spend the night.
We will head to Namche via Tengboche after breakfast. The descent from Tengboche to Phunkitenga passes through beautiful forested trails, somewhat steep and dusty. Keep an eye open for wildlife! After a long day of walk, Namce will be quite a welcoming site.
The trail descend to the Dudh Koshi River as we pass through several local villages and finally reach Lukla via Pakding. Congratulate yourself because you have successfully accomplished something that is very physically challenging – the successful trek to Everest Base Camp and back! You will be relived but at the same time, it can also be bittersweet as it is your last night on the mountain. Get your well-deserved rest!
It’s time to bid farewell to Everest, the roof of the world. You will take a scenic early morning flight to Kathmandu. After touchdown, we will you check in a comfortable hotel in the capital for much needed rest from this tiring but extremely memorable trek.
Our Everest Base Camp trek has come to an end and now its departure day. You can visit nearby places, indulge yourself in last hour shopping and prepare for departure.
